Car Driver

Car drivers transport passengers to their destinations.

A car driver may perform the following tasks:

  • use mobile computer systems and radio networks to log into waiting passenger information
  • pick up passengers at designated locations or when hailed, and transport them to their desired destinations
  • arrange regular repairs, general maintenance and cleaning of vehicles
  • check passenger destinations and determine the most appropriate route
  • receive money or credit payments for fares and give change
  • assist passengers with the handling of luggage
  • keep accurate records of driver shifts, income and expenses.

A car driver may specialise as a:

Hire Car Driver/Chauffeur who drives motor cars to transport personnel and visitors on behalf of hire-car companies, business, government or other organisations.

Some private families employ a chauffeur and the job usually entails other duties such as running errands. When driving dignitaries, hire car drivers/chauffeurs must be aware of security.

Taxi Driver who drives cars licensed as a taxi to transport passengers for a fare that is calculated on a taxi meter.

Taxi drivers usually work shifts involving day, evening and weekend work. Taxi drivers have constant contact with the public and drivers must provide a service that meets the standards of the taxi network for which they drive.
