Industrial textiles fabricators lay out, cut, assemble and
repair products made of canvas and synthetic fabric, including
awnings, tents, tarpaulins, horse rugs, annexes, vehicle
covers, agricultural products, shade cloth, boat covers,
banners, bags, rucksacks, pool covers and sails.
Industrial textiles fabricators may perform the following
tasks:
- read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
and cut patterns from paper according to drawings
- select and measure material, mark it out with crayons
and cut with shears or power cutters
- set up and maintain industrial sewing machines
- sew pieces of fabric together by hand or on lightweight
or industrial heavy-duty machines, hem articles, inserting
rope inside the hem if required, attach eyelets, grommets
and fasteners
- attach rope to the manufactured article using hand tools
and treat material for water and rot proofing
- operate high frequency and hot air welding equipment if
handling PVC material
- make and repair sails for yachts from synthetic
materials.
