Mechatronic Engineer

Mechatronic engineers are employed to design and maintain machinery with electronic equipment and computer control systems, such as mainframes, aircraft, robots, integrated circuits, motor vehicles, cameras, automotive products, power generators and mining and chemical plant machinery.

Mechatronic engineers may be responsible performing the following tasks:

  • research, design, develop, maintain and manage sophisticated technology engineering and mechatronic systems for the automation of industrial tasks
  • enhance and apply mechatronic or automated solutions to the transfer of material, electronics, mechanical components or finished goods
  • enhance and apply advanced electronic control systems, which are usually computer-driven by integrated circuitry
  • research, design, develop and possibly assist in the manufacture of consumer products, such as cameras, video recorders and other electronic equipment
  • investigate and apply electronic and mechanical processes and computers to jobs where the use of human labor may be dangerous or difficult(e.g. underwater exploration, mining or forestry)
  • investigate the feasibility, costs implications and performance benefits of new mechatronic equipment and computer systems.

Workplaces range from laboratories and processing plants to engineering design offices.
