Piano technicians tune, maintain and repair pianos.
Piano technicians may perform the following tasks:
- tune pianos by tightening or loosening strings to get
the correct tonal balance and pitch
- adjust moving parts to give the correct touch
- replace worn or broken strings and carry out other minor
repairs
- test and adjust pedal action assembly and keyboard
- carry out major repairs such as replacing wooden bridges
and soundboards, re-aligning or replacing action components,
replacing strings and recovering keyboards
- assess pianos for valuation and restoration.
Piano technicians usually travel to private homes or other
premises to carry out their work.
