Process Worker

Process workers assemble components, perform production
line operations and other manual duties in factories.
Process workers may perform the following tasks:
- load and unload raw materials and finished products
- check products to reject defective items, pack into
boxes and stack onto pallets
- undertake inventory procedures, pack materials and place
in storage
- maintain the cleanliness of the general working area and
machinery
- position components and materials, under instruction
from leading hands or supervisors
- operate automatic and semi-automatic machinery and tools
such as conveyor belts, bottling machines or soldering irons
- do off-line duties such as sub-assembly and testing,
under instruction from leading hands or supervisors.
Process workers mostly perform repetitive tasks on articles
passing along the production line. Some factories rotate their
staff so that they are not doing the same task for too long.
Process workers may specialise as an:
Electrical and Electronic Equipment Assembler who
puts together parts, which make up television sets, radios,
stereos and electrical appliances.
Metals and Engineering Industry Production Worker
who dismantles, cleans, inspects and assembles parts; works
from drawings and prints to assemble new equipment; assists
tradespersons; carries out minor maintenance duties, including
stores and inventory work; and applies basic computer skills.
Plastics Assembler who joins parts that go into
making plastic products such as furniture, swimming pool
equipment and building materials. They put pieces together by
hand using tools such as screwdrivers, knives, scissors or
power-cutting machines.
Vehicle Assembler who works as part of a team to put
together such parts as the engine, brakes or electrical system
to complete a car from the individual parts.
Wood Products Assembler who puts together wooden
parts, fits hardware items such as hinges, catches and knobs
to wooden parts to make sure they fit together smoothly, and
may fabricate wooden components of furniture.
Assemblers work in factories, on moving assembly lines or
at benches and may be required to work shifts in some plants.
Conditions may be noisy and assemblers may have to sit or
stand for long periods.
