Prosthetist Orthotist
Prosthetists/orthotists are health professionals employed
for the provision of prostheses or artificial limbs to people
with amputations, missing limbs, and orthoses or supportive
devices to people with problems involving muscular and skeletal
disabilities. Prosthetists/orthotists aim to maximize the
quality of life and the well being and comfort of the patient
by providing the most appropriate prosthetic or orthotic
treatment.
A prosthetist/orthotist may be responsible for the following tasks:
- Prosthetist Orthotist investigates a patients' needs by physical examination and questioning
- they may help and assist physicians in pre-surgical planning and in the
formulation of prescriptions for prostheses
- design, fabricate, custom fit and align the prostheses or
orthoses to patients
- it is very important to test the effectiveness and comfort of these devices
- record and report clinical information from information provided by patients
- Prosthetist Orthotist might provide advice to other health professionals and patients
- supervise support people with disabilities.
Prosthetists/orthotists may work with prosthetic/orthotic
technicians and other health professionals in order to obtain the best results for patients
