Scaffolder

Scaffolders are employed to build and dismantle scaffolding structures to provide safe working platforms on building or industrial sites, or for temporary structures such as stages, seating, concert, sporting events and maybe even catwalks. Scaffolding is required to provide safety to workers in some industries such as roof tiling.

Scaffolders may be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Scaffolders check the requirements from drawings and written instructions from seniors, select the required materials and set the ground levels
  • assemble and fit together steel pipes, support beams, support braces and clamps to form bases for scaffolds
  • Scaffolders may be required to lift and position sections of scaffolding and bolt pipes together to build up scaffolding equipment
  • place planks over beams to create safe working platforms
  • check the levels in scaffolding structures to ensure safety
  • use prefabricated scaffolding when available to save time and money
  • dismantle and clean up scaffolding material at the completion of a job

With experience and also further training, it is possible for scaffolders to become a rigger.

Scaffolders mostly work outdoors at a variety of locations, mainly on constructions sites and in all weather conditions.
