Trade Measurement Officer

Trade measurement officers test the weight of products for
sale to consumers to make sure of the accuracy of claimed or
advertised measurements and fair trading.
Trade measurement officers may perform the following tasks:
- test weighing and measuring equipment for accuracy
- calibrate weights and measures to national measurement
standards
- conduct accuracy checks on goods sold by weight or
measure (e.g. pre-packed food)
- apply the trade measurement law, investigate any fraud
and prosecute if necessary.
The work is done at service stations, oil depots, airports,
stores, supermarkets, factories, warehouses, hotels and
government measurement laboratories. Trade measurement
officers also have a role in investigating non-compliance with
the consumer safety and information standards requirements of
Fair Trading legislation.
Required Skills - Trade Measurement Officer
- an Australian citizen (applicants who have permanent
resident status may be offered full-time employment pending
granting of citizenship)
- enjoy technical work
- pass a medical examination
- good communication skills
- able to perform calculations accurately
