Visual Merchandiser

Visual merchandisers are employed to develop floor plans
and three-dimensional presentations of goods and services
in order to maximize sales, business performance and productivity.
These include window areas, shelves, interior
point-of-sale displays and special promotions. They can also
promote services such as travel and particular events such
as car shows, home shows and renovation ideas.
Visual merchandisers may be responsible for the following tasks:
- communicate with managers and associates of department stores to better
enhance the floor layout and display sections, as well as how and
what products are to be displayed
- Visual merchandisers may design window or internal displays based on a certain
theme, style or trend of advertising that is agreed upon
- obtain props and accessories for constructing displays that is eye catching and stimulating
- Visual merchandisers make and paint props and signs that is appealing
- dress and arrange mannequins and use appropriate lighting to display
clothing accessories and merchandise for the best presentation possible that will attract
customers.
- take down and clean up displays after promotion perhaps for re-use later on
- Visual merchandisers may arrange ticketing and signage.
Visual merchandisers may be involved in a bit of labor work as well,
they may be required to carry heavy equipment, a bit of light construction work
climb ladders, some painting and work in confined areas. Visual merchandisers employed by
large department stores or firms may have the opportunity to travel between head
office and branches. They may be required to work at night, on
weekends, public holidays and public events perhaps.
